'Breakfast' meeting

Thu, Feb 25th 2021 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Rotary Tea Party

Tonight's meeting came a few days after the birthday of Rotary, now 116 years since the first Rotary Club was formed in Chicago. In recent years we have made this a breakfast meeting at the hotel where we meet, but as our meetings are currently held virtually, via Zoom, we decided to meet in the evening as usual.

In recognition of Rotary's birthday, we watched a video speech from the President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland,Tom Griffin, who emphasised the ever greater importance of service in our communities during the pandemic, citing several examples of work undertaken by Rotary Clubs across the country.

We had 3 guests tonight, Vivian Gicquel, Bob Cave and our speaker Arthur Jones who had been invited by Ivan. Arthur is a Governor of the Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust Hospital, and spoke in considerable detail about the issues facing his hospital, and the NHS generally during the pandemic. It was a very interesting talk, which prompted many questions from the audience, one or two of whom had worked in the medical profession.
