Rotakids and Lend with Care

Craigie Primary School presents their Lend with Care charity work

Craigie Primary School Rotakids with Rotary Club of Perth and Perth Kinnoull

Lucy, Phoebe and Ruby gave us a fantastic talk about their experiences of being a Rota Kid in Craigie Primary School on 19 February 2026.

The pledge is ‘As a Rota kid I endeavour to be fair to all, to serve my community and show respect for others’.

There are 16 Rota kids in Craigie Primary School mainly in Primary 4-6, 8-10 years old. Ruby and Phoebe are joint Chairs and Lucy is the Secretary of the group. They meet regularly at lunch time.

Each Rota Kid has a role in helping to organise and lead a school event, a community event and a global project. They have run 3 events so far to raise money for local charities and school funds.

A field fun day for P1-P3 pupils and a second one for P4-P7 pupils. Groups moved around various activities in 15-minute slots. The activities included planting sunflower seeds, playing games, toasting marshmallows, nature, art and den building-all great fun.

This was a good way to recruit new members to the Rota Kids club and get the whole school involved.

Their community project was a litter pick in October 2025. This involved cleaning up areas within walking distance of their school, including streets and paths. Each class selected an area, and the group planned the routes, wrote risk assessments and prepared maps for the classes. The equipment used and how to pick litter safely was explained and shown at a school assembly.

The third project is a colour run on 2 April 2026 which the pupils will get sponsorship for. The money raised from this will be split between Marys Meals and the school to buy outdoor learning equipment.

Lend with Care is a micro finance website where people in developing countries are trying to set up a new business or extend an existing business.

Craigie PS has become involved in this through Brian from Kinnoull Rotary as they wanted to involve local children in this process. So, Craigie PS Rota Kids have taken this on as their global project.

Kinnoull Rotary have signed an account over to the school and made an initial investment which has enabled each class to select 3 micro businesses to give a loan of £15 to each. So, all the classes are involved in discussions linked to the challenges people around the world face, sustaining developmental goals, enterprise and running a small business.

The pupils thanked Kinnoull Rotary for the opportunity to get involved with Lend with Care and to the Rotary Club of Perth for supporting the start up and growth of Rota Kids in their school.
