Rotary at its best!
Sunday, 1 June saw a small team of folks descend on Kinnoull Primary School to do some work in their playground. For those of you not familiar with the school, it was built in what had been a quarry and has very limited green spaces and is surrounded by huge rock walls. The RotaKids, as part of their community project, were keen to try and brighten up the space and where possible have some more plants etc. As a starter, our Club decided to give them a helping hand and give their plans a bit of a boost.
None of this would have been possible without the considerable help of Alistair Ritchie, his son Jim and another of his pals. And boy did they come in all guns blazing! Arriving at the playground on Sunday morning we were greeted with a small, JCB, a trailer, a small digger and bags of stone chips, 4 large whisky barrel planters and a couple of picnic tables! Absolutely unbelievable! Within a couple of hours a small border had been transformed from a dull, weed covered area to a bright border complete with two soil filled planters ready for the pupils to plant up! Two other planters were also brought in and placed along a wall of the building again giving another opportunity to plant up and brighten up the space.
None of this could have been done without the tremendous help of Alistair and all his contacts, supplying the machinery and resources! What a man! Hamish too was on board for this event and together everyone achieved a remarkable result in a short time! Even the challenges of getting the gates opened and diggers into small areas were all dealt with (enough said about that)!
