Around the World in Wine

A fantastic evening was enjoyed by over 30 Rotarians and guests on Friday night courtesy of our superb hosts from Wildflower Wines, Jodie and Dave.  Dave learned his craft with Oddbins and he then took the plunge and started up his own company.

We started with a trendy Crémant, Crémant being the neighbouring region to Champagne, before heading to South Africa for a Sauvignon and we rounded up our white wines with an organic Argentinian Torrontes. Wines one and two seemed the preferred options.

Our hosts’ knowledge was very apparent both in terms of the wine regions and the particular wines. They were very gracious with their time and after each wine the chat became noticeably noisier as we enjoyed the company at our tables, as well as the wines!

Soon we were off to try a Portuguese red from The Douro, followed by a French Syrah/ Grenache blend and we finished off with a Reserva Oak aged blend from Navarra, the neighbour of Rioja. I enjoyed all three reds and I’m keen to try them again.

The main purpose of the event was fellowship and fun.  We achieved that in (wine) bucketfuls and also raised some funds for our good causes.
