The Christmas Meal Gift Initiative Report 2024
The Christmas Meal Gift Initiative delivered support for local families for 4th year across the Perth City area and beyond, who are impacted by the cost-of-living crisis. Letham4All led on the delivery of this initiative with the unwavering support of The Baptist Church, The Rotary Club of Perth, Fair City Unity and Giraffe’s Compassionate Christmas Campaign. In addition, The Christmas Meal Gift Initiative helped deliver the toys which were provided by Scottish Fire and Rescue officers. Teams from local Perthshire Fire Stations undertook a fund-raising campaign with an aim to ensure that no child in Perth and Kinross would not receive a present from Santa. These were included with the games and soft toys, once again collected by the St Johnstone Fans of Fair City Unity who collected items at local Saints Games from other football supporters. We also received a lovely donation from the pupils of Muthill Primary School, who donated much loved soft toys, to give to other children to cuddle.
In total this year The Christmas Meal Gift Initiative was delivered to 557 people (253 adults and 294 children), 123families in the community and a further 40 people supported by agencies in the community. This year saw an increase in the number of people supported, a rise from last year by around 20%. Each family received a freshly cooked 3 course Christmas Dinner, a fresh fruit pack, a treat bag – filled traditional Christmas treats and games and essentials like toiletries etc and individually wrapped and labelled gifts for each primary school aged child in the household from Santa, aka Perth Scottish Fire and Rescue Teams. As in previous years Letham4All worked with all the primary schools in Perth to send information and request forms to families who received a school meals voucher in the October holidays in 2024. All families were messaged prior to the delivery as a reminder of the time they would be receiving the gift. This year we also supported 40 meals to be distributed to care experienced young people in the community.
