The Tayside and Strathearn Help for Ukraine was formed as a response to the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022 in order to find practical ways to support those affected.
TASH for Ukraine soon became a large organising and distribution hub based in Errol Airfield (courtesy of Morris Leslie) with donation points across Scotland. The volunteers receive, sort, box and palletise the humanitarian aid, with a 40ft articulated vehicle leaving from Errol to Ukraine via Poland on average every 10 days. They also support, as are supported by, Ukrainians in this country.
Deborah Ovens, Vice Chair of TASH for Ukraine says “Our charity is young and relies on the community pulling together where cooperation and collaboration are key. We really value the relationships we have with other charities and organisations such as The Rotary Club of Perth. We believe we can approach the Club for help and support.
The financial grants given are invaluable and hugely appreciated. We are fortunate to have very few overheads but being a relatively new charity we don’t have the benefit of accumulated funds. These financial contributions allow us to cover the transportation costs and therefore vital aid gets to Ukraine on a regular basis. Grants from organisations and individual donations are heartening not only to our committed volunteers but also Ukrainians living here. It illustrates community support for them and most importantly HOPE that the citizens of Ukraine have not been forgotten; together we are making a difference.”
