Rotary Clubs can be competitive! In a good way. Every year they compete in the Gavel Challenge which entails a team from each club competing first locally and the winner moving through regional heats to a final.
The challenge is based on several games. The Rotary Club of Perth met Perth Kinnoull in November 2023 and it was a very close match. Both Clubs had 4 teams of two players who each played four games (Putting, Shove halfpenny, Connect 4 – but throwing a ball to get it in the slot! and Dominoes).
After all the rounds were played and much fun had the teams were break even so the tie break was a randomly drawn game of dominos against a randomly drawn team from each side.
Perth won and went on to play the Rotary Club of Dundee Claverhouse at Broughty Ferry in January. It was a great opportunity to get to know some more Rotarians in a social environment. Our competition teams were made up of John, Bethany, Beverley, Monty, Shelagh, Joe, Gail and Bill playing Dominoes, Connect 4, Putting and Carpet Bowls.
Claverhouse won a slim victory at 17/15 and will go on to Peterhead to play the next round.
Thanks go to the team members of all three Clubs and to Bethany for organising the event for our Club.
