Jubilee Project – Macmillan Cornhill Hospice

Since the inception of the Club's Silent Auction, the main recipient of the funds raised has been the Macmillan Cornhill Hospice. 

In May 2022, after a visit by the President and Vice President, who were stunned by the wilderness visible from the patients’ windows and decking area, which has a magnificent view across the town, the river Tay, Scone Palace, and as far as the Angus hills, it was agreed by Council that the Club would undertake the work to clear the neglected area as part of a Queen's Platinum Jubilee Project. 

The area was originally planted out when the unit first opened, but had not been maintained. The Club members started work in June 2022 to clear the neglected area and with the help of chainsaws, tree pruners, and a fork lift, managed to clear the grounds of trees, bushes, and general debris. This took many volunteers including partners, family, and friends, a number of weeks to achieve, and during the clearance, it was also established that large areas of the decking were rotten and dangerous. 

Over a period of time, Rotary Club members and their family have given freely of their time and skills to level the site, remove large stones, spread top soil, plant grass seed, and plant a Rotary Crocus corm wheel, They have also power hosed, sourced, re-laid, and replaced a large area of the decking, and with help from a couple of local businesses, replaced areas of the sub structure, and sourced and provided new decking where necessary.      

The Woodlands Trust provided free tree saplings and 2,000 bluebells were sourced and planted. The Club's hard work has now provided a pleasant outlook and an attractive seating area for those who are unfortunate to spend time at the Hospice.
