Rotary Youth Speaks Competition
Four teams recently took part in the local round of this public speaking competition organised by the Rotary Club of King’s Lynn – King Edward VII Academy, Smithdon High School, Springwood High School and Terrington St Clement’s High School. The debates covered topics relating to animal testing, the effects of social media on mental health, the use of smart phones by children and the effects of Year 6 SATS on mental health.
For the second year running the winners were from St Clement’s High School. Star Dean explained the reasons why animal testing took place while Darcie Butters set out the arguments against. The debate was ably chaired by Poppy Foster. The team go forward to the District Round of the competition which will be held at the Council Chamber in Norwich in February.
The Rotary Club is very grateful for the continuing support and expertise of the judges - Dr Bob Rogers and Mrs Diane Scoles, to Springwood High School, for hosting the event and also to the school staff involved with the teams.
