Rotary Young Musician Competition
For many years the Rotary Club of King’s Lynn has organised a very successful debating competition for secondary-aged pupils in the area. For the fourth year another Rotary competition – Young Musician - has been held in King’s Lynn. On 5 November four competitors took part in the local round. Pupils from Alderman Peel School in Wells, Downham Market Academy and Springwood High School took part. They played pieces by Rachmaninoff, Ireland, Rameau, McHugh, Mozart, Joplin and Chopin.
The winner was pianist,Iryna Oliinyk, whose two pieces by Chopin and Rachmaninoff greatly impressed the judges and the audience. She goes on to the District round to be held in Norwich in February.
The Rotary Club is very grateful to Derek Oldfield, Avril Wright and Daniel Jenkins for acting as judges and to Springwood High School for hosting the event.
