In South Africa many schools still operate with open pit latrines which are physically dangerous and spread disease. Through the international Rotary network of over 45,000 clubs Holt & District Rotary has contacts in the New Dawn Rotary Club of Johannesburg who in turn support a local charity Donate-a-Loo in providing modern toilet facilities in local primary schools. Our donation in 2025 was used to provide a new toilet block to this Charity Day Care Centre for one to six year olds.
By using the Rotary network we are assured that the funds are being used to best effect. Whilst our members do not get physically involved with the project we can nevertheless impact the lives of young people outside our immediate neighbourhood.
