A Life in Classical Music - what the audience never sees

Cambridge Music Festival has been held every November between 2012 and 2019, with performances by the top classical musicians of our time including Nigel Kennedy, Andras Schiff, Philip Glass, Murray Perahia, Joshua Bell, Academy of Ancient Music, I Fagiolini and many more.
This year they are presenting a special run of events starting in March 2021 with online and live concerts with audience where possible. As well as traditional classical music, there will be a series of nine specially-commissioned works for percussion and electronics, with associated videos.
Justin will give us a peek into the off stage world of music festivals
Justin has worked in the classical music business for nearly 30 years, principally in orchestra management – from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to the Academy of Ancient Music.
In 2011, Justin went freelance when he became director of the Cambridge Music Festival and he has presented an annual festival since November 2012. His other projects include programming the chamber music series at Kettle’s Yard.
Memorable moments of his career include working with artists from Sir Simon Rattle and Nigel Kennedy to Dionne Warwick and Barry Humphries; Royal Opera House and National Theatre productions with full orchestras on stage; and the challenges of touring groups of up to 300 musicians around Europe, the USA and South America.
Justin was elected to the board of the Association of British Orchestras where he chaired the Education Group (until 2011), he sits on the Cambridge Arts & Cultural Leaders board and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He studied music at Oxford University and postgraduate business studies at the London School of Economics.
