The Club is mourning its oldest and longest-serving member, Francis, who died suddenly three weeks after we celebrated his 89th birthday at a club meeting. He joined our club more than 42 years ago, and remained active until his last days. He was much loved and admired. He was President in 1993-4, Paul Harris Fellow in 1996 & 2015, Roger Asbury Award-holder in 2013. His well-known architecture practice continues on the corner of Magdalene St and Northampton St. His most visible and famous creation is the Sidney Sussex College bridge over Sussex Place, but he was also responsible for many other buildings for the University and other clients.
Francis always had a wise, kind and helpful word for everyone he met. He inducted many current and past members into the club and continued to guide them. He was a dedicated technophile who constantly helped and encouraged the members to make the best possible use of computers and the internet. We recognised this contribution in 2022 by naming the prize for our inaugural Computer Coding Competition the 'Francis Hookham Trophy'
Many messages have been received from members and others who knew Francis. More contributions are welcome and will be added as they come in. There is even an appreciation of sorts from the former Prime Minister.

Our popular event for school choirs and their families & friends raised over £15,000 for local children's charities. The 2024 Concert will be on Friday 13 December at West Road Concert Hall - details coming soon

We organise two-day breaks at a National Trust site in N Norfolk for young people aged 12-15 who probably won't get any other holiday

Combating AMR was the focus of our 2023-24 President's Charity, Antibiotic Research UK. We raised nearly £6000 in support

Our Junior Competition entrant has gone on to win at National Level. Our Intermediate Team won third prize in their group

Past President John Martin uses his building skills to help the locals create a community centre for this deprived settlement in The Gambia, only a few miles from the luxurious tourist resorts on the coast

We raised funds supporting Ukrainians both in Ukraine and in Cambridge & East Anglia from several events in 2022
