Ukraine update talk by Rotarian Gordon Brooks

Ukraine Latest

Last week at Baldock Rotary we had an update about Convoy for Ukraine (C4U) given by our International Chairman Gordon Brooks.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine almost four years ago, Rotarians from many countries have provided humanitarian relief to people in and from Ukraine. In the early days Rotary Clubs assisted Ukranian women and children who had sought refuge in our country to find homes while they are here, to settle in and help them with items to make a dwelling place a home.

For the people still in Ukraine, Rotary has organised humanitarian aid, typically medical supplies but also items like generators.

Last year, through C4U, Baldock Rotary supplied a consignment of medical supplies to go out to Ukraine in a 4 x 4 vehicle that was being driven there by volunteers.

Gordon has since been in contact with other Rotary Clubs in our District 1260 (Beds, Bucks and Herts) and with some clubs in our neighbouring District 1080 (Cambs, Suffolk and Norfolk) and several clubs have chipped in with us.

The result is an ex -NHS Ambulance that was being "retired" has been bought, MOT'd and insurfilled with humanitarian equipment and has been driven by C4U volunteers to Ukraine where it been handed over to the agencies involved with humanitarian relief.
