British Heart Foundation Cheque Presentation

Donation presentation to British Heart Foundation

lll

The proceedings of each year’s Baldock Rotary Jazz Concert are always used to benefit a worthy charity and the profits from our concert on 18th October last year have been  donated to The British Heart Foundation (BHF) to help them with their valuable work.

Heart disease is the world’s biggest killer and can happen at any age. BHF have funded pioneering heart research and also offer a lifeline of information and support to people who are suffering from heart disease.

A few facts: around 70% of people will have some heart problems in their life and it is estimated that there are over 8 million people living with cardiovascular disease in the

UK, twice as many people are living with cardiovascular disease in the UK than with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease combined.  Cardiovascular disease causes around a quarter (26 per cent) of all deaths in the UK, that's around 170,000 deaths a year, or 460 each day – one every three minutes.

Since establishment of the BHF in 1961 the annual number of deaths from cardiovascular disease in the UK has fallen by nearly half. A great achievement.

Baldock Rotary Club members were pleased to welcome Nicola Reavey from the BHF  to our recent lunch meeting and to present a donation of £1200 from the jazz concert to help the work of this important charity.

Pictured with Nicola are Rotary President Paul Brown who presented the cheque along with Keith and Carol Britter who plan each year’s Jazz Concert with meticulous detail
