George Wilmott Memorial Race Night

At the end of September, more than 100 Rotarians and their guests attended the annual George Wilmott Memorial Race night at Irchester Bowls Club. And what a night it turned out to be.....

The night consisted of 8 filmed horse races where people were able to purchase and name their horses then there was a 9th race with horses being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Rotarian Cera Wilkins was the highest bidder for the final race and succeeded in actually winning the race on a horse called “Bunny Hop”. Well done Cera!

We all enjoyed a fish and chip supper midway through the evening – which was very welcome to calm the nerves of the big spenders (betting £1.00 only per horse!!!).

A big thank you to the race sponsors Sidey Design Associates, Geoff and Rachael Banks, Mark Darnell, Richard and Carol Massey, Anton Rudgalvis, David Beesley, Glenis Haynes, Greig Marshall and Ian Smith plus all those Members who assisted before, during and after the event. A special thank you also goes to Brenice Wilmott who made a special donation for the evening – and who also assisted with bar duties.

And the best thing.....we raised £2,052.00 on the night which will be used to help finance the Community and Youth Services 2025/26 programme. This demonstrates how The Rotary Club of Rushden puts the “fun” into fundraising.
