Some of you may recall the District 1070 Centenary Raffle.....many people/organisations donated prizes and many people bought tickets. In the case of The Rotary Club of Rushden, Rotarian Peter Head won a prize which was “2 tickets for a motorsport event”. The tickets were kindly donated by Rotarian Paul Ross, a member of The Rotary Club of Grantham.
Peter had decided that he would not be able to attend the event so he donated his prize to the Rushden Club with a wish that there should be a single bid auction and the tickets being won by the highest bidder. His chosen charity was The British Heart Foundation. The winning bidder was (soon to be) President Anton Rudgalvis who made a significant donation to the charity and bagged the tickets.
The “motorsport event” was in fact a closed and private function called The Secret Meet organised brilliantly by the Supercar Driver Club www.supercar-driver.com. Paul Ross is a member of this club and agreed to meet Anton at the event
Fast forward (no pun intended) to a very hot June 17th at the Silverstone Grand Prix F1 circuit. To witness hundreds of supercars on site as well as on the track coupled with 150+ hypercars was truly a sight to behold. All of the major manufacturers were present so we’re talking about Ferrari, Mercedes, Zonda, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Jaguar, McLaren, Maserati, Audi, Porsche, Audi, Bentley, Koenigsegg.....the list goes on. Many of the cars were driven to the circuit (so the car park itself was interesting to say the least). Throughout the day there was access to all the cars, the track, the pit lane and it was certainly a sensory overload if you were a “petrol head”.
Another example of Rotary in action – 2 clubs in District 1070 combining and a charity being the beneficiary. Well done all!
