What do we do?

The Youth Services Committee endeavours to work with local schools, other agencies and individuals to encourage the development of young people’s skills and make them more rounded as individuals.

How do we do that?

We encourage the development of children’s talents in music, art and general knowledge:

The annual Rotary Young Musician evening at The Ferrers School offers a prize for the winner of each of the junior and senior categories – this will take place on 16 March 2027;

Local schools are invited to submit entries for the Young Artist competition, with a winner from each school having their work displayed in Rushden Hall during the Party in the Park (10 July 2027).

In addition, 9 March 2027 sees the Inter-schools Quiz at Rushden Academy, when our local junior schools compete for the coveted trophy.

Is that all?

Each year we sponsor Prison? Me? No Way! at Rushden Academy, when a day long programme highlights the life-style choices pupils will need to make as they progress in years.

Over the last 20 years, Rotary has given more than 1 million disabled and disadvantaged young people the chance to enjoy new experiences, taste adventure and have a fun day out. 9 June 2027 sees the UK’s biggest single day out for disadvantaged young people and, locally, we support local schools to take children to Wicksteed Park, where the rides are free for the day!

We are now developing a Peace Advocacy Project in conjunction with local schools, with the purpose of enabling young people to become peace advocates in schools and community groups so that they can learn to develop peaceful conflict resolution strategies that transform conflict into success.
