End Polio Now

Rotary International has been working since 1988 to eradicate polio worldwide. In 1988 the disease was endemic in 69 countries and there were over 300,000 cases a year. By 2018 polio was still endemic in just 2 countries and there were just 8 cases.

Rotary International has been working since 1988 to eradicate polio worldwide.  In 1988 the disease was endemic in 69 countries and there were over 300,000 cases a year.  By the end of 2018 polio was still endemic in just 2 countries and there were just 8 cases.

We are still working hard to eradicate the disease totally, and we raise funds and hold events to promote our work.

In November 2016 we planted 5000 crocus bulbs, mainly in the Pocket Park (Recreation Ground) at New Road (see photo).  The remainder were planted in the grounds of St. Peter's Church with the help of local Cub Scouts.  In November 2017 we planted more bulbs and we look forward to seeing them all grow in 2018.

The purple crocus was adopted as the emblem of the End Polio Now campaign, as it's the colour of dye used to mark the little finger of each child as he/she is immunised.
