As part of our charitable work overseas Northampton West is funding bursaries for Students to train as Early Years Teachers with the Knysna Education Trust (KET) based in South Africa,

KET is a registered Social Service organisation with a dedicated focus on improving the teaching, learning and developmental outcomes for preschool children by providing access to key early childhood interventions.

We are working with KET and the Rotary Club of Knysna to fund bursaries for student teachers. At the end of the two year course the students will achieve Certified Early Child Development qualifications to National Qualification Framework Level 4 standard and they will support and expand the work of KET.

The selected students are from Preschools located in the informal communities and all students who are identified are ladies who have no other means of being able to pay for their further studies. KET have solid information about the “worthiness” of candidates and which of the candidates will be able to cope with the studies and have the best chance of improving their current employment and income once qualified.

By enabling KET to train more teachers their work can be extended further into the community. In addition, the teachers themselves will have a beneficial effect on the lives of 100s of young children.

This project has been running for six years and with the support of a District Grant we are currently providing bursaries for 4 students
