District Governor, Geoff Blurton, came to the Club lunch on Monday and presented a Paul Harris Fellowship badge with Sapphire to Past District Governor, Rtn Andrew Cowling, in recognition of his many years of service to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award programme for District 1070.
This course at Grafham Water is considered to be the finest of its type in ‘Rotary In Britain & Ireland’, and is designed on a basis of team competition with each day building on the knowledge and experience gained in the previous days. Andrew has acted as Rotarian in Residence, helping to develop the leadership skills of hundreds of young people over the years.
These courses are designed for young adults aged 18 to 26 who show the potential and inclination to give leadership to youth, through voluntary and/or vocational activities. It is a personal development 8 day seminar (7 nights) of activities including water sports, practical initiative tests, development of interpersonal skills, camping, map reading and problem solving. They are also able to compete in a computer-based business game to help with business management skills.
