Roger Neuberg, District International Chairman and the Project Leader for " eRangers", has recent visited Uganda where he saw the results of this Rotary project, which was the major recipient of funds raised at our recent "International Evening". Roger's message is reproduced below.
"I have just returned from Mbale, Uganda where I had the privilege of handing over 32 eRanger Motorbike ambulances, which were funded by 43 Rotary Clubs in District 1070; 3 Rotary Clubs outside our District, 4 private individuals and a school. It was an overwhelming and emotional experience. As you will know, the need for emergency transport of pregnant women and very sick children to a health facility is massive. Over the last 3 years, Mbale has built up a tiny fleet of 7 eRangers to provide a totally inadequate service for a community of 1 million people. They had carried out 7,000 emergency call-outs by early December 2013, many of them life-saving. The difference another 32 will make will be astonishing.
While in Mbale I was also a member of the paramedic team going out to numerous health centres to instruct Village Health Teams (VHTs) which was a marvellous experience.
My heartiest congratulations to the members of the Rotary Club of Nothampton. Your eRangers will save many many lives. I undertake to make at least annual reports to each eRanger sponsor club and other sponsors outside Rotary indicating the number of emergency call-outs and type of call."
