The event jointly organised by the Deepings Lions and the Deepings Rotary Club was, again, a great success despite the weather, at the start.
As the parade of floats got underway at about midday from the Deepings Leisure Centre, the heavens opened but the participants and marshals were determined to carry on regardless.
Groups such as the Harmony Majorettes got particularly wet and were soaked by the time they reached the final destination of the John Eve Field in Market Deeping.
“It was a real shame about the weather but it certainly didn’t put a dampener on anyone’s spirits. Each year, the Carnival just gets better and better. We have tried to build up the parade and there were lots of different groups joining in this year”.
Once at the John Eve Field, there was plenty for spectators and participants to enjoy, including on-stage performances, a five-a-side knockout tournament, First Class Dog Agility, children’s rides and the crowning of the Deeping Carnival queen.
A Spitfire and a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight also flew over, dipping particularly low on the fourth turn much to the delight of the crowd. The planes then went on to nearby Bourne.
The Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs both had stands in the John Eve Field, to promote new
Membership and the Rotary Club ran a Bar in aid of Charity Funds.
