County show is over and the Rotary year is gearing up for public events and activities
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)
This past year we were delighted to have two participants head off to the RYLA Girls’ camp at Abernethy Outdoor Centre. RYLA promotes team work and leadership skills, whilst having fun and fostering friendships. We look forward to hearing them talk about their time away and how it has effected them.
RotaKids
The success of RotaKids in Dounby Community School has been one of the highlights of this past year.
The RotaKids have been actively fundraising and cheque presentations have been made to two local charities, Inclusive Orkney and Homestart Orkney.
Following a successful Smartie Tube challenge they planned a School Fun Day at the end of term to raise funds for the Archie Foundation and NSPCC.
Earlier in the year they made up wonderful Harvest Hampers and gifted them to the elderly in the community.

Rotary delivers patient toiletries to the Hospital
These toiletries are used for patients who come into the Hospital in an emergency where they have no toiletries with them due to the urgency of their case, and they are not provided by the Hospital. This provides some home comforts whilst they are in great need.
Pictured above are: Willie Stewart, Chair of Community Service, Orkney Rotary Club, Moira Sinclair NHS Former head of Clinical Nursing, Michelle Mackie NHS Present head of Clinical Service and Derek Tait, Orkney Rotary Club, who organised the supplies with kind sponsorship and support from the Kirkwall Tesco team, with additional support from Paula Chapman the Tesco People's Champion.
International activity
Pupils and staff at Sanday school have long supported Minga School, Malawi. Pupils pay for their education in Malawi and many, therefore, leave school early. Rotary have been supporters of this fund raising effort. This year we are grateful to the Papay Community which has raised £350 towards one term of Secondary Schooling for 10 boys and 10 girls..

The Rotary Club of Orkney in partnership with Orkney Battalion Boys Brigade will be hosting a coffee morning on Saturday 27th September at the Boys' Brigade Hall, Kirkwall 10am to 2.00pm. Coffee, cake, a raffle and bottle stall. See you there.
