Environmental Service - caring for the planet

Club members please log in for more information.

This Rotary programme is aimed at trying to improve the local environment, contribute to young people's awareness of the issues and to provide a practical route for members to recycle.

The Local Environment

Ashby Rotary has for many years maintained several under utilised areas in the town and improved them attractively with low maintenance planting.  The first of these, laid out in 1972 is the Pithiviers Gardens.  Another exists next to the Fire Station and a third in Churchside Walk.  The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Gardens in South Street were opened on 31st May 2012 and have become a useful stopping off place on the way back from town to the sheltered housing off Prior Park Road.  Members of Ashby Rotary and our Impact Group work alongside the town council to tend these areas . If you would like to help please contact our secretary

Environment Awareness

Ashby Rotary has worked with groups, for example to improve Gilwickshaw brook and has worked with the Phoenix Charity to expand environmental education to all persons irrespective of abilities. In short, we endeavour to promote and develop sustainability in everything we do.

Encouraging Recycling

The Club is actively promoting the recycling of ink cartridges, aluminium cans and a range of recyclable items amongst its members and friends.  If you have a scheme needing support please contact our secretary.
