On the evening of November 22nd almost 80 Rotarians and their wives and guests attended this annual charity auction, held at the usual venue of Hagley Golf & Country Club. This long standing function goes back many years and the name was changed some years ago on the death of the very well respected local auctioneer, Jack Downing.
This year, once again, the auction was conducted by the well known Will Farmer. Will, a former Stourbridge Rotarian is a director of the locally based Fieldings Auctioneers Ltd and spends a lot of his time in London and regularly appears on National Television in The Antiques Road show.
As usual, the proceedings were conducted at a brisk pace and very many items of great wealth were snapped up. Members and a number of local businesses had very generously donated items ranging from a long week-end holiday in a cottage in Devon; a week-end break for two at an inn at Congleton; several vintage bottles of wine; a dinner and bridge evening for two; a return airport trip; a number of luxury Christmas hampers and numerous other items. Following a visit by Club members to the headquarters of Aquabox the Club has made a donation of £300 to support the work of this charity in supplying clean water to those in great need.
