On Monday 6th November, the St. Helens Rotary Club hosted a night of celebration to highlight and recognise their Youth Initiatives. These initiatives aim to support and empower young individuals, providing them with valuable life experiences and opportunities for personal growth. During the event, Rotarian Dave Sheridan presented the first of two notable initiatives, emphasising the positive impact they had on the participants' lives.
Initiative 1: Parkdale Football
Team's Visit to Tony Becketts Water Sport Centre:
Rotary St. Helens had the pleasure of supporting the Parkdale Football Team by making it possible for
them to visit Tony Beckett's Water Sport Centre at Pennington Flash. This initiative focused on engaging the young football team in team-building exercisesthat pushed them out of their comfort zones.
The visit to the Water Sport Centre enabled the team to participate in a variety of activities that required collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. These exercises not only fostered a sense of camaraderie among the team members but also helped them develop crucial life skills. The experience left a lasting impact on all the participants, creating lifelong memories.
The initiative's success lay in the shared experiences that brought the team together, helping them grow as individuals and as a unit. Each member of the Parkdale Football Team gained valuable life experiences during their visit to Tony Beckett's Water Sport Centre, which will stay with them throughout their lives.
Initiative 2: Support for Dylan
Johnstone's Participation in RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards):
The second youth initiative undertaken by the St. Helens Rotary Club involved
supporting a young carer, Dylan Johnstone, in attending a Rotary Leadership
course known as RYLA. This program took place at the Petty Pool Centre in
Nantwich and was designed to nurture leadership skills and personal development
in young individuals.
Dylan Johnstone's participation in RYLA is a testament to Rotary
St. Helens' commitment to empowering young people and providing them with
opportunities for growth and self-discovery. RYLA courses are renowned for
their ability to inspire leadership qualities, build self-confidence, and
enhance problem-solving skills. By supporting Dylan's attendance at RYLA, the
Rotary Club helped him develop important life skills that will undoubtedly
serve him well in the future
The St. Helens Rotary Club's Youth Initiatives, as demonstrated through the two
highlighted initiatives, exemplify the organization's dedication to fostering
the personal growth and development of young individuals. These initiatives not
only provide valuable experiences but also create lasting memories and equip
participants with life skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Rotary St. Helens continues to be a positive force in the community, making a difference in the lives of young people like the Parkdale Football Team and Dylan Johnstone. These initiatives not only empower individuals but also contribute to building a stronger, more resilient community. The celebration of these initiatives serves as a reminder of the positive impact that Rotary clubs can have on the lives of young people and the broader community they serve.
