Rotary Community Lottery
In 2021, the three Rotary Clubs in Nantwich decided to develop a Community Lottery, based on a similar Rotary project in the Midlands. Neil Ridgeway from the Rotary Club of C&N Weaver, whose idea it was, led the project and it has run every year since its inception.
In essence, this scheme allows us to support a number of small charities (that choose to join us) by providing a combined lottery with tickets individualised to each charity and with an attractive first prize of £1000 and a number of £100 runner up prizes.
The charities’ commitment is to sell tickets and promote the lottery, and the Rotary Clubs’ commitment is to help financially pump prime the process, indemnify the Lottery should ticket sales not cover the costs and provide ‘back-office facilities’ including ticket printing. In November, at a special presentation evening, the winning raffle tickets are drawn.
The charities take 80% of their ticket sales and the Rotary Clubs take 20% for expenses and prizes. The Clubs do not make a ‘profit’ out of this, merely break even, as any of the 20% left after expenses is donated back to the charities.
