Annual BBQ and Presidential Handover held in the gardens of Glebe House Acton by kind permission of Gerald and Deana Emerton

Sixty one members of the Club, Inner Wheel and friends enjoyed a BBQ in Gerald and Deana Emerton's lovely garden to celebrate the end of one Rotary year and welcome the start of the new year under President Rod Stokes.

Past President Tony gave the following summary of his year in office:-

As I come to the end of my year as President it is an appropriate time for reflection.

At the start of the year I set out one major objective of growing our membership and hopefully have achieved this with 6 new members: Claire Faulkner, Nicola Morgan Parker, Dennis Parton, Margaret Stockton, John Paulson and Alan Jackson. It also looks that we may have another 2 or 3 in the wings. I believe the foundations are in place to ensure this progress continues.

We have also had some fun with the gliding event shortly to be repeated one of my favourites. Charter night was well attended with 133 guests, a great speaker and from the feedback enjoyed by everyone. Last week’s event at our home also went well with the rain staying away.

This is the final year of 1050 and some of my time has been spent ensuring a smooth transition to 1180. We attended both Rotary conferences at Scarborough and Southport. I have also attended a number of 1180 district meetings and been made most welcome. It was great to see the current and future 1180 district governor at our Charter night. I know 1180 regard our club very highly and will make us very welcome.

The other important achèvements have been in fundraising. This year we have raised £17,658 which is the highest amount for some years. It included £5,500 to Foundation and £2000 for Alzheimer’s Society. We were adept at securing grants from district coffers of about £1500.Our Xmas float activity despite a few mechanical problems raised over £4100.

None of this would have been possible without the unqualified support of all members and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me make my year and enjoyable and constructive one.

Ashley Weaver as Chairman of the Community Service Committee presented a gift token to Gerald and Deana in recognition of their hosting the event again this year.
