Presentation of Prizes at Rotary Art Competition

On Saturday April 25th Edward Timpson, Minister for Children and Families, presented prizes to the winners and runners up of the Rotary Club of Nantwich Primary Schools Art Competition at the Nantwich Museum.  Friends, family and representatives from the local schools turned up in force to cheer the winners - in particular Jayden Bailey from Acton Primary School who won the ‘Overall Champion’ Award, which was presented by Sainsbury’s Nantwich Manager, Ian Sutton.

While Sainsbury’s sponsored the Overall Champion, Richard Morgan-Wynne from The Charity of William Hodgkin presented a cheque for £250 to Acton School which won the award for the ‘Most Impressive School Collection’.

There were nearly 320 entries from eight Nantwich Primary Schools received for the Rotary Club of Nantwich annual Art Competition.  From these, the judges - local artists Martin Greenwood, who is also a local architect, and Claire Somerville, who is also an art teacher at Brine Leas School - selected the 21 individual winners along with the school prize.

The theme for the competition was simply ‘Families’ and the children were free to interpret that however they liked.  Said judge Martin Greenwood: “We were most impressed by the high standard of the entries, which clearly demonstrated that Nantwich Primary Schools have many talented young artists who have the confidence to express themselves in imaginative and colourful ways.”

Said organiser Vic Croxson: “This competition has been going for five years now and has grown from two schools to eight and from 30 entries to well over 320.  It is now a popular event in the annual Nantwich calendar and we’re thrilled with the response we got this year, which was stronger than ever.”

The children’s work will be on display in the Museum until 23rd May.
