80th Charter Dinner

One hundred and twenty six members and guests attended the Club's 80th Charter Dinner at the Civic Hall on 4th March 2014.

 Principal guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Nantwich Clr & Mrs John Lewis, District Governor Derek Newman and Cath Newman, Derek Poppleton  President of the Rotary Club of Crewe.

The highlight of the evening was the award of two Paul Harris Fellowships:-

 Firstly to Mike Houlston, who joined the Club in 1988, was President in 1996  and has chaired most of the Club Committees, assisted with the twinning arrangements with the Rotary Club of s-Hertogenbosch-oost.and his outside activities include the Chairmanship of Acton Parish Hall and  involvement with Acton Church.
Secondly to David Fishburne, who since joining the Club in 1999, edited the Club Bulletin for five years and nine years ago, setup the Club website and is still the Webmaster. He was President  in 2010, outside activities included Chairman of Guy Harvey Youth Club for 5 years and Membership Secretary of the local U3A for 9 years, during which time the membership grew from 250 to 1250.

A cheque for £600 was presented to Geoff Parsons on behalf of Wingate Special Gymnastics from the Christmas Float Collection.

Derek Poppleton  President of the Rotary Club of Crewe, proposed the toast to Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Nantwich and District Governor Derek Newman responded with a brief speech on Rotary today.
The Principal Speaker was Peter Slack a 3rd Generation Hill Farmer from the Peak District, who entertained us with his witty reminiscences in coping with the many thousands of hill walkers, who walk over his land each year.

President  Ashley , in proposing the final toast, thanked the caterers and Deana Emerton for providing the table decorations.
