Talent Auction

The alleged skills of sundry Rotarians and Inner Wheelers were duly bought and sold at our Talent Auction on 27th September. The skills on offer included trips to airports and shopping centres, afternoon teas and evening meals, gardening and gutter cleaning, musical accompaniments and even the offer of a posh coat for a dog. Our resident auctioneer did his best to force up the bidding by turning his deaf ear to the lower offers and his good eye to the higher ones so that in the end we raised well over £1,000 pounds. The line from Charles Dickens about "making a precarious living by taking in each other's washing" somehow comes to mind but we all enjoyed ourselves neveretheless and made a worthwhile addition to our Charity Fund.
