Special Projects

Usually. a fund-raiser organised solely by the Rotary Club of Dundee to encourage fellowship and raise funds for our own charity.

Aim & Objectives
The Aim of the Special Projects Committee in Rotary Year 2024-25 is to organize and deliver the Club’s second Gig in the Garden, building on the experience gained from last year’s event. Combining fellowship and fundraising – maximized through the inclusion of an auction and/or raffle, the event is intended to provide an evening of entertainment for Club members, their friends, as well as Rotarians and their families and friends drawn from local clubs. The Committee will seek volunteer support from across the Club.

Specific Objectives are as follows:

  • Plan and deliver Gig in the Garden 2024 (agreed date Saturday 17 Aug 24), including the provision of an entertainment programme, the necessary power, AV, lighting, overhead cover and staging requirements, licensing as necessary, plus provision, as far as practicable, for inclement weather; target – 150 attendees.
  • Working with other committees and the wider membership, elicit support in planning the event and in coordinating efforts to ensure its success on the night.
  • Working with the Admin, Fellowship & PI Committee, identify and exploit potential PI opportunities of the Gig in the Garden event, demonstrating and emphasising the Club’s vibrancy, visibility and volunteering credentials.

Good afternoon fellow Rotarians,

This will confirm that we are to hold our 2nd Gig in the Garden between 4.00 pm and 9.30 pm on Saturday 17th August at the beautiful Botanic Gardens in Dundee.

Arrangements are now well in hand for this outdoor musical event, which forms part of our fund raising/fellowship events for the new Rotary Year. We are looking for as many members as possible to support this event, but to also bring along some members of their family and some friends. The arrangements will be similar to last year and you are asked to bring your own picnic, hot or cold drinks, chairs and blankets. We are obviously hopeful the weather will be kind to us again, but if not we have purchased a large batch of attractive rainproof ponchos which will be available, if required.

Ticket price has been retained at £20.00 per head. Tickets are available from myself.

We have secured a few excellent auction items and once again we will have a raffle.

We are currently finalising our Musical Entertainment for the afternoon/early evening event, but will include –

  • Make Geography History – A Dundee based acoustic duo Doug and Sharpy playing covers from the 50’s to today, creating a captivating musical experience.
  • Thomas Barr – Bringing Nashville to the Botanic Gardens!
  • The Simpsons – Craig and Marlowe (ex -Take 3 Girls) sing an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary songs.
  • Taller than Jesus – Mathew (Messarounds) and Michael (Tonka) playing guitars and singing loads of teckle tunes. Tecke is a Dundee word meaning “very good, entertaining!

I look forward to receiving your calls requesting tickets.

In the meantime, any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Robert
