Great conversations and connections at
the Whitby Mental Health & Wellbeing Fair
On June 15th, the Rotary Club of Whitby & District proudly facilitated a Mental Health & Wellbeing Fair at Whitby Rugby Club.
It was a vibrant and engaging afternoon aimed at raising awareness and providing support to the local community.
The Rotary Club was thrilled to have over twenty stands from a diverse range of mental health and wellbeing organisations, each bringing unique insights and resources to the fair.
Local people had the opportunity to connect with professionals and volunteers from these organisations, gaining valuable information about mental health services, support groups, and wellness strategies available in the community.
It was a family friendly event with live music and fun activities for children, such as face painting and crafting.
Primary school children took part in a poster competition with the theme ‘What makes mehappy’, with entries displayed on the walls of the Rugby Club for everybody to see.
The feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the variety of resources available.
The event also gave mental health and wellbeing organisations the opportunity to network with each other – connection is so important! Feedback included: -
‘Thank you so much for organising a wonderful event. It was good to be able to network with other organisations and meet the public and spread the word about Carers Plus Yorkshire’.
‘Thank you for allowing Andysmanclub to attend the event. It was a lovely afternoon and was great for us to network and meet other organisations’.
‘...it was a great success, so well attended, Place2Be made great connections with parents and children and other stakeholders there’.
‘From the Samaritan point of view it was a real success, in the networking that was achieved on the day, and we were successful in getting a handful of possible new recruits to become Samaritan listeners too’.
The Rotary Club is grateful to Whitby Rugby Club for providing a welcoming venue and to all the organisations and volunteers who contributed to making this event a resounding success.
Together, we made significant steps in raising awareness about mental health and providing the local community with tools and knowledge to support their mental wellbeing.
