June 2023 Clearance with Guildford Round Tablers also lending a hand
Thank you to those who have volunteered two hours of their valuable Saturday spare time to help clear and maintain the orchard and grounds at Gosden House School and arranged for the trimming of the apple trees to restore the orchard. (Many thanks Merrow Agricultral College students for the tree trimming).
Gosden House is an outstanding school for young people with learning and additional needs. For the last 6 years a group of Rotarians from Guildford have been helping to clear the gardens.Over the years the brambles have continued to grow and we need some additional hands (and they don’t need to be green fingers) to clear nettles, brambles, etc. We have been delighted that already we are getting help and at the peak one Saturday we had 18 of us including several non rotarians, three children and two dogs! Think what we could do with yet more volunteers! Please keep an eye on this website for notice of our working dates, the next of which are in 2025: Jan 25th ; Feb 22nd; Mar 29th; Apr 26th; May 31st & June 28th. We often complete the morning at the Queen Victoria for some refreshment.
The School is in the middle of some 45 acres of land and they have very little help. The land has steadily become overgrown and currently our club is therefore helping with clearing some of the area. We found some 7/8 apple trees under all those brambles which have now been expertly pruned! - see photos.
Presently we are restoring an old workshop to become a new 'Cider House'
The pictures show how much has been cleared already.
Why not join us for a couple of hours of enjoyable healthy exercise on a Saturday morning and finish with a friendly pint?
