ROTARY PRESIDENTS’ HANDOVER

At a charter dinner on Saturday Richmond Rotary Club celebrated the arrival of its new President Ian Hepworth.  The handover ceremony took place this year at a dinner at The King’s Head in Richmond where the outgoing President John Morton handed over the chain of office in the company of Richmond Rotarians and Distinguished Guests. The chain of office includes the names of Past Presidents dating right back to the Club’s foundation in 1955. The evening concluded with excellent music from the Richmond School and Sixth Form College Jazz Band.

Ian Hepworth has participated in numerous London Marathons for Rotary charities over the years and is the first of four Presidents to serve Richmond Rotary this year.

On leaving office John Morton said:

“It has been a great pleasure being President of Richmond Rotary Club.

Amongst many things during the year we have held our Best Kept Village contest, an Art Exhibition and Christmas raffle.

In addition, we have raised money through street collections for various emergencies and in total we have donated over seventeen thousand pounds to a variety of charities.

I welcome our new Presidents and wish them a happy and successful year.”

Taking up his role Ian Hepworth emphasised his desire to enable the Club to continue to thrive and develop its contributions to the local community.

In taking over Ian Hepworth said:

“I am delighted to be taking over as President of Richmond Rotary Club.

Rotary Clubs like Richmond do an amazing job for their local communities as well as giving members a great deal of fun and friendship. I plan to organise our activities in a way that encourages new people to join us.

Like many Rotary clubs in the western world, Richmond Rotary Club has had a fall in membership over recent years, and we are keen to recruit new members with new ideas.

To this end we have organised two drop-in sessions at the Station in Richmond on Thursday, July 9 and Wednesday, July 15. Both will run from 6:15 pm until 7:45 pm and will provide an opportunity for potential members to learn more about Richmond Rotary Club and what we do. Rotary is open to both men and women and is a non-religious non-political organisation”
