Young Environmentalist Award District 1040

DISTRICT 1040 YOUNG ENVIRONMENTALIST COMPETITION 2026-2027

RULES

1. Schools / Youth Organisations may submit more than one entry. There is no charge for entry.

2. Schools / Youth Organisations must complete an entry form received from their local Rotary Club and returnable to them.

3. Closing date by which entries must be submitted is 30thApril 2027.

4. There will be three categories in each age group to choose. But ( the organisation may choose their own project if the three given are not felt suitable.

5. One of the key aims is to involve as many cross-curricular ideas / Collaborations as possible.

6. Entries can be submitted electronically but judges may request to visit the site / project. Photos, Videos, PowerPoints etc are acceptable forms of submission as well as requesting a judges visit.

7. Final decisions on the awards will be made mid June 2027, results will be notified in July 2027.

8. Solo entries will be accepted, but a team effort is preferred.

9. The three categories for the two age groups are -;

PRIMARY AGE GROUP

1. If earth Could Speak.

Create a collage, Mural, Sculpture representing what the planet might say to humanity.

2. My Green Garden .

Research plants and habitats for an environmental friendly garden considering pollinators, food plants, insects, birds and mammals. Draw up plans to exhibit your ideas.

3. Recycling Heroes

Design posters, stories, activities for a desk project on the theme of recycling.

HIGH SCHOOL AGE GROUP

1. My Future Building

Design a future building that uses a minimum of non-renewable energy. Illustrate with drawing, posters, models.

2. Eco Stories for Children.

Design and produce books, Stories, games etc for young children illustrating environmentally friendly ideas. These must contain illustration.

3. Recycle, rebuild.

Use waste materials to build something useful. Research materials then manufacture them into making something of use  eg. furniture,  garden beds, tools.

10. The Environmental Lead for the District  - Nigel Arthurs – will be happy to talk through the suitability of a project  and expand on any ideas.

11. There will be an overall winner in each age group, the winners will receive a certificate to display a prize will be awarded.
