Lauren received life changing injuries in 2008 when she crossed a road in Harrogate late at night. She spent 16 months in hospital and was told she’d never be able to breathe independently. But Lauren proved doctors wrong and has since used her experience to set up Lauren Doherty Road Safety Talks to educate young people about the dangers of the road. Speaking on Twitter Lauren said, "Rather than focusing on what I’m now unable to do, due to my spinal cord injury, I like to focus on what I am able to do and the things I have been able to achieve. There is no point wasting my time dwelling on the what if’s." Lauren’s story is one of resilience, bravery, and unwavering determination delivering her message to nearly 8000 people and reaching thousands more through Radio, TV, Newspapers and social media. Lauren has received several awards for the work that she has done in raising awareness around Road Safety including a BEM and an invite to the Coronation! Lauren was accompanied by her Project Manager, Rebecca Blunstone, who oversees the everyday running and on-going development of the charity, enabling Lauren to fulfil her dream in educating Children and Adults. This was both an inspiring and remarkable presentation which we can highly recommend to other groups of all ages.
