Recycling for better health

Funeral directors helping Bradgate support Intercare charity

As an international organisation, Rotary seeks to promote better health all over the world. Sometimes that involves travelling abroad, but often it involves supporting established charities and good causes that have proved they are trustworthy and have a good track record.

Bradgate Rotary is supporting Intercare, the Syston-based charity which has sent medical items worth more than £20 million to African countries since it was founded in 1974.For some time now, Bradgate members have been collecting items suitable for recycling.

In 2026, after hearing a talk by speakers from the charity, one member suggested that the Rotary Club could provide leaflets and ask funeral directors to have the leaflets in their offices so that bereaved families having to clear houses.

The Rotary members had in mind things like mobility aids and appliances. Several years ago Intercare were dealt a blow when the rules changed and they are no longer allowed to export out-of-date medicines.

But, as you can see from the leaflets, that leaves plenty of scope for items which can be re-used, and even more which can be recycled in poorer parts of the world.
