In the spring of 2026 Bradgate Rotary members increased the support they had been giving to Inter Care, the Syston-based charity that sends medical aid to Sierra Leone, Malawi and Tanzania.
For several years the club has encouraged members and friends to donate foreign banknotes and coins, stamps, unwanted jewellery, mobile phones and tablets, empty printer ink cartridges. These are sold to help the charity meet its operating costs. That need continues.
But back in the spring a member suggested printing leaflets for funeral directors to hand them to bereaved families, asking them to pass on no-longer-needed in-date medical supplies and foldable mobility devices.
The scheme has begun to yield results. Jenny Gilbert-Trigg, Director of A J Adkinson and Son contacted a member of Bradgate Rotary to say she had several large boxes of unused medical supplies families had asked her to pass on.
Megan Wright, Fundraiser for Inter Care, received them with gratitude, along with two mobility aids which had been passed on by another bereaved family.
Megan said Inter Care was very grateful to be able to ship the items to health centres in sub-Saharan African countries which have desperate needs for clean, foldable mobility aids and for sterile medical equipment, which is very expensive there, even if it is available.
Angelina Jones-Slack, from Bradgate Rotary, asks anyone with jewellery, coins etc., to help Inter Care fund its running costs, or mobility aids and medical equipment, to contact her by clicking the button on this page.
