Local businesses are backing the Rotary Clubs duck race which will be held on Sunday, September 6, alongside the annual show organised by the Friends of Knighton Park.

This, the third annual duck race supported by Rotary members across Leicestershire, will raise money for the Leicestershire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Ten per cent of the profit will go to the Friends of Knighton Park.

One thousand plastic ducks will be launched into the Saffron Brook near the concrete sluice between 2pm and 3pm. Tickets – one for each duck – wil be on sale on the day from 10am.

But they are already available from following the instructions on this Facebook page. Don’t wait to be approached by a Rotary member… this year we have only 1,000 tickets for sale instead of 3,000 as in previous years.

And news of the super prizes on offer will be sure to spark even more sales.
The first prize is a children’s party at Everyone Active, Parklands Oadby. It is worth more than £175. The second prize is a £100 holiday voucher donated by Holiday Lounge, Birstall. The third prize is £75 in cash.

Since the tickets have been printed, other prizes have been donated, including:-

  • A £200 voucher donated by Michael John Flooring in The Parade, Oadby, and Narborough Road, Leicester.
  • An Amazon voucher worth £50 donated by Bradgate Rotary president Andrea Wilkinson
  • A voucher for a meal for four donated by the Holiday Inn, Wigston, just a stone’s throw from Knighton Park
  • A voucher for a meal for four donated by the family-run Mirch Masala Restaurant in Melton Road, Leicester, which is currently celebrating it’s 30th year of serving vegetarian food.
  • A £25 voucher to be used at The Wheatsheaf, Thurcaston

Race organiser Jim Matthews, a member of Bradgate Rotary, said: "We are extremely grateful to the kind donors who are helping us to make the most of this event. for the benefit of local people who are living with Motor Neurone Disease. I know how devastating MND can be for loved ones and their families.

"We are also indebted, as always, to the Friends of Knighton Park who encourage us to run the event alongside their annual show."

We’ll be announcing more prizes on this Facebook page in the coming weeks, so in the unlikely event that the prizes listed above don’t whet your appetite, keep coming back to this page… and buy yourself and your loved ones some tickets.
