How can one member of Rotary – among nearly 1.2 million – make a difference?
They rely on clubs grouping together in geographical areas to share the expertise and experience of other members in other clubs.

In the case of Bradgate Rotary, ‘our’ District is 1070, representing the 1,163 members in 70 clubs across the East Midlands of England. The leader of that group for the last 11 months has been Moira Penney, from Cambridgeshire.

She started the last meeting of the group during her year as District Governor, by paying tribute to Bradgate Rotary member Bill Watson, who over more than 20 years as a Rotary member has helped lead and co-ordinate efforts to give service to local communities. Bill has recently decided for personal reasons that he must resign from being a full member of Bradgate Rotary.

Moira said Bill had been “a wise mediator, a really cool dude.”

Val Howe, who has stepped in the take over Bill’s role as a Community Service lead, added: “Bill’s final report was thorough and perfect as it always is.”

Bradgate members are delighted that they will continue to draw upon retired lawyer Bill’s wisdom and knowledge.

Bradgate was also mentioned as one of the first clubs to ask to use a gazebo newly-acquired by District 1070. It will be used when Bradgate holds its next Freeze Your Bits and Bobs Off walk in Bradgate Park in January 2027.

That gazebo had been used at 10 Expos the East Midlands which had resulted in a growth of Rotary membership.
