Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, or RYLA, is a leadership development programme run by Rotary for young adults. Each RYLA Candidate is sponsored by a local Rotary club or group.
The RYLA Candidate Presentation is a much-anticipated highlight in our Speaker Calendar, and so it proved when Fiona Okeke from St John’s High School delivered an excellent account of her experiences at the RYLA Camp, held at the Outdoor Centre, Nethybridge, in July.
Every Rotarian present was extremely attentive and highly appreciated Fiona’s very professional and entertaining delivery.
Fiona praised RYLA for helping course participants to discover their potential and develop the skills needed to be leaders in the community, career and everyday life. Leadership skills . . .teamwork . . . problem solving . . .decision making . . . making friends . . and simply having good fun . . . all came across in Fiona’s slide show presentation. Her ‘top favourite activities’ were Gorge Walking and Hill Climbing – Oh to be young again, was a common sentiment felt by the mature audience present!
Fiona has been an excellent ambassador for Claverhouse Rotary and St John’s High School. We wish her every success in her sixth year studies and in her stated ambition to study medicine and become a doctor.
