Rotary Youth Speaks 2024/25

An evening of listening to incredible young people tackling public speaking

This year's annual "Rotary Youth Speaks" was held on Friday 7th February 2025 at the Victory Academy, Magpie Hall Road, Chatham

There were 16 speakers in 2 categories - intermediate group of under 14's and senior group of 14 - 16 years.

The intermediate group led off with subjects as diverse as "Gorillas" which came 1st to "Will a lack of pride in the NHS lead to its downfall?" which came 2nd. The winner was Sydney-Mae Greenwood sponsored by Victory Academy and the runner up was Emilia Sargent from Walderslade and Greenacre School Partnership.

The senior group winner was Charis Cook from Chatham Grammmar who spoke on "What is a family?"  and the runner - up was Adewale Adeiyi from the Victory Academy  speaking on "Why do people listen to music?".  A specil mention for Adewale who wrote his speech in 3 hours after he found out during the last lesson of the day that a fellow pupil was unwell and agreed to take their place.

The judges were Rtn David Hatcher, Mr Martyn Clements and Rtn Sonja Curtis who had a really difficult job in judging such excellent presentations.

An extremely enjoyable event  was finished off by the presentation of prizes by the Worshipful Mayor of Medway,  Councillor Marian Nestorov who's speech about youth was very impressive and who gave some excellent, thought provoking comments on the power of words.

Vince Maple, the Leader of Medway Coucnil endorsed the Mayor's views and expressed his pride in the depth of talent in the young people of Medway.

A big thank you was given to the Victory Academy for hosting the evening and particularly to the staff who  were helpful in every way in making the evening a success.
