Teddy Bears' Picnic

Teddy Bears' Picnic 2013

DOWN TO THE WOODS

Well, they did come down to the Weston Turville woods on Wednesday 14th August for Wendover Rotary's Teddy Bears' Picnic.
It was a busy and fun time for bears, children and adults too with games, competitions, races, face painting, entertainment for the children and tattoos for both children [some adventurous adults too]  and, of course, the Best Dressed Ted competition. The refreshment tent was hard at work all afternoon with scones and homemade pastries adding to our own Handmade Cake Company's cakes.
Two of the most popular indoor activities were the face painting and the childrens entertainment. Mandy Smith was kept busy for the whole picnic painting faces on delighted children and Penny Lowe had the smaller ones enchanted with her 'entertainment'. Both Penny and Mandy very generously gave of their time and talent free of charge.
Our two main charities, PACE and School Aid should reap considerable benefit from the Picnic [to find out more about these charities scroll to bottom of page]  and we are most grateful to our sponsors for the event, Harpenden Building Society and all those Rotarians and non-Rotarians who gave of their time and energy to help us make the afternoon the success it was. We have had nothing but positive feedback from mums, children and bears who were there.

For the next year, the Rotary Club of Wendover & District is supporting two main charities. The proceeds from all events are for PACE and School-Aid, and other Rotary supported charities and projects.

PACE is a ground-breaking children's charity that transforms the lives of children and young people with motor disorders, such as cerebral palsy. Fundamental to the PACE approach is a belief in every child's ability to learn and make progress, whatever the physical or sensory challenges they face. The overriding goal is to help children and young people with physical disabilities to achieve their full potential and to be as independent as possible in their current and future lives.
PACE is  family-centred and provides an innovative education for life for children with sensory motor disorders.  Supporting, enabling and sharing with families is an integral part of all that PACE does.
PACE programmes are inspired by the principles of Conductive Education and are designed and delivered by trans-disciplinary teams of conductors, teachers, therapists and classroom assistants. These programmes combine all aspects of learning and development to ensure that each child's potential for an independent life and integration into the community is realised. The PACE vision is that every child in the UK with sensory motor disorders, and their families, can access educational and training services aligned with the PACE ethos.
