Paralympics Torch Relay
On the evening of 28th August members of Wendover and District Rotary Club assisted in marshalling the Paralympic torch relay as it passed through Weston Turville on its way to Aston Clinton and Tring.
Thanks to the efforts of Sandra Maizels and her team of lantern makers we managed to line the route for about half a mile through the centre of the village with home-made lanterns; some of which are shown here. This made a short slot in the journey of the torch at the opening ceremony and the BBC on-line news:
Just before midnight the torch was carried through the village of Weston Turville, in Buckinghamshire, where residents lit candles to line the route. A London 2012 spokeswoman said: "It is great. Each place has got a different way of doing things. In Weston Turville the candles along the street were superb, in Tring it was the sheer number of people, and in Berkhamsted there was music while the torch went along the High Street, and when it left the church bells rang out."
