The Trees in Memorium Scheme has been run by the Club since 1981 in co-operation with Harrogate Borough Council and most recently of course, with North Yorkshire Council. Now that almost 1000 trees have been incorporated into the scheme the Club has decided to close it.
Over the years, relatives of someone who had died could buy a tree and the details of both its location and those who had bought the tree, as well as the date of death and details of the deceased, have been recorded in a Book of Remembrance. There are now three Volumes. They were housed originally at the Pump Room Museum but more recently in the Harrogate Public Library. The Index and Registers can be viewed in the Reference Library on the first floor.
In addition The Rotary Club has arranged, when requested, a Tree Dedicaton Service, usually held in situ, with members of the family invited as well as Rotarians.
Whilst the scheme has now come to an end the Council continues to be responsible for maintaining and replacing Memorial Trees wherever possible.
(A useful contact if required is the Arboricultural Office (Harrogate), North Yorkshire Council)

The Rotary club provided the opportunity to plant a tree in memory of someone or to commemorate a special event/occasion. This has now been discontinued.
