After a 6 month trial in 2016/17 the Uppingham community decided, through the Neighbourhood Forum and using the good offices of Uppingham First the business/community partnership, to procure a community funded minibus as the next and permanent Uppingham Hopper.
Local residents and businesses provided seedcorn funding and a £25000 interest-free loan was provided by Rutland CC. Further sponsorship and funding opportunities are being pursued. The Rotary Club of Uppingham decided to fund the purchase and installation of a disabled access ram for the back of the bus at a cost of £1000 and received grant support of £500 from The Rotary Foundation for this very worthwhile community project.
The Hopper enters full service on Monday 7 May and will be inaugurated by the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Sarah Forsyth.
