Local Rotary clubs organised a District Final of their Young Musician Competition at the Sir Thomas Wharton Community College on Saturday, 5th April 2014.
This highly successful event showcased musical talent from 11-18 year olds from across Rotherham, Doncaster and Brigg. John Ellis MBE (Doncaster Youth Jazz Association) and Karen Roberts (Doncaster Concert Band) adjudicated. Senior Instrumental winners were William Fraser on drums and Ethan Crane on Electric Guitar. Intermediate Instrumental winner was Regan Wong on piano. Vocal winners were Isabel Canning in the Senior Class and Rebecca Vernon in the Intermediate Class.
The Civic Mayor of Doncasters Deputy, Cllr David Nevett and his wife Kathleen were in attendance. The clubs were praised for a professionally run but relaxed and friendly event. Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland, District 1270 Governor, Simon Kalson, commented that this event showcased many different genres of music and gave opportunities to musicians not normally featured in this type of event.
