Sadie Bristow Foundation
Clare, Sadie’s mother gave an overview of the foundation built in memory of Sadie
who suffered from a multitude of allergic conditions. Sadly she died as a result of a
severe anaphylactic episode on a family picnic. Sadie was the no 1 under 9 UK
tennis player.
The lack of knowledge in society about allergies and anaphylaxis led the family to
set up a foundation in Sadie’s memory. Initially the foundation had 2 aims:
- To encourage children to learn and play tennis.
- Education of professionals, eg paediatricians, GPs, teachers and support staff.
As well as playgroups and schools.
Today the charity provides:
- Tennis support
- Psychological support for parents, for whom everyday is a worry.
- Training programmes especially focusing on schools, and psychologists.
- An annual conference.
Benedict’s Law comes into force in September which requires schools to have a
number of things in place to support children with allergies including, training
programmes for all staff, Adrenalin packs, named person for each child with a plan.
If you come across someone who is lethargic, having difficulty breathing, hives and
or swelling as well as a very regular cough call 999 and just say anaphylaxis. Give
Adrenalin if available into the fleshy part of the thigh, through clothes if necessary.
Kathy thanked Clare for a very interesting talk which generated a number of
questions and personal experiences. Clare then left for work.

David M proposed as well as £50 speakers fee the club donate £500, this was
seconded by Maggie and agreed by those in attendance.
Gardening at Whitstable and Tankerton hospital 16/05
- Maureen has prepared all the pots and Andrew is going to select the
pelargoniums for planting. Maureen has enough volunteers.
Car Parking
- A big thank you from Godfrey, especially to Sarah and Deborah who were
dropped in the deep end. It was a very good day, but please don’t take holidays
on parking days!
Sarah’s Induction will be after the formal section of next week’s meeting, Pippa
and Spyros will be back and Sarah will bring her wellies.
AOB
- Andrew M informed us that Jean is a lot better, the club continues to wish her
well.
- Sarah is celebrating a little big birthday (based on our club’s average age ) with
a party on 13/6 6.30 onwards at the East Quay venue, everyone is invited 
Raffle won AGAIN by David M!
Master at Arms (AKA Bertie Bassett) Godfrey fined people for a variety of reasons
including holidays, panicking, arriving early, re-invention, Roger, etc.
Godfrey told a little story about gunpowder, a centenarian and a crater 
Final toast given by Robert.
Next meeting is the AGM, 21/5 7.30 for 8am at the Monument.
